Candidates having at least 60 credit units
with an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher are advanced directly to step 2.
Candidates having a BA/BS degree will advance to step 3.
Note: That there is no special
consideration for graduate degrees. Overall integrity is highly desired. |
Officers who remain in the class of Police
Officer will receive longevity pay as follows:
$165.30 per month after 10 years
$332.34 per month after 15 years
$497.64 per month after 20 years

Candidates with sworn officer experiences
are advanced one step for every 2 years of completed service but no higher
than the 4th step. Lateral candidates must meet all requirements for
POLICE OFFICER and complete all parts, except the qualifying
multiple-choice written test. The lateral program includes an expedited
testing process and an abbreviated training and orientation program. The
training is conducted in a manner that recognizes the lateral candidate's
standing as an experienced California peace officer and not a new recruit.
Military Law Enforcement experience and Reserve Police Officer service not
applicable. |
A 2.75% - 5.5% additional premium is
available to eligible Officers with the ability to speak and or write in a
language other than English (based
on the requirements of the position) |

Expedited Testing |

You may be eligible to participate in
the Police Officer expedited testing process. In this process you will be
able to take the first four test parts within three consecutive days.
These test parts include the personal qualifications essay, physical
abilities test, initial background review, and polygraph examination.
"Out-of-town" candidates (those residing 150 miles or more from Los
Angeles) may take the Department Interview upon successful completion of
the first four test parts. The Police Officer expedited testing process is
available starting on selected Mondays and Tuesdays. If you are interested
in beginning this process, you must first complete the
Preliminary Background Application and Job Preview
Questionnaire in order to determine if
you are eligible for this process. |
A flexible work schedule is available for
many patrol and special assignment units. Depending on assignment,
available schedules include three 12 hour days and four 10 hour days. |
